ALECKO ESKANDARIAN
Junior
Forward
5-8/155
University of Virginia
Consensus top player in the draft …perhaps the most skilled forward in the
nation … excellent dribbler, and an unforgiving finisher … a bit on the
small and light side … more quick than fast … his quickness and smarts allow
him to create enough space for himself to get off shots on goal … despite his
size, he loves to play with his back to the goal and turn quickly with the ball
… not a great leaper, and won’t win a whole lot of balls in the air … a
lot of people thought he drifted in and out of matches at times last year, and
others thought he was bored with the competition at times in college … still,
Eskandarian managed to put up eye-popping numbers this past year, and a number
of MLS scouts believe he is the only player in the draft capable of assuming a
starting role in his rookie season … just has a knack for finding the net, and
has scored some breathtaking goals on the collegiate level … does have a
temper, and will accumulate some silly cards … you can get him off his game by
getting under his skin. Said one observer, “I guarantee you he’ll get sent
off the first time he’s marked by Rusty Pierce.“ … a select few say that
he has something of an attitude problem and may have to experience a bit of
difficulty in MLS before he’ll reach his potential.
